Finding a Boaz & Ruth
Sunday we moved from chapter 1 of heartbreak to chapter 2 filled with hope. And that my friends is what this world needs. Hope that God will provide, hope that He in His providence that He can use natural circumstances to bring about His supernatural plan in our life and in the world.
One of the things that struck me most in the story of Ruth is that she didn't just do what many in the culture were doing in her situation. Instead of turning to prostitution to help provide for her and Naomi she put her trust in God. Ruth relaized that if you do what most people do, you will get what most people get.
As she is gleaning from the fields to help provide grain for making bread it is said that in verse 3 of chapter 2, "So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech."
God allows her to be in a place that will be favorable to her and Naomi. In fact, the story really picks us steam and we will see something very special come from this relationship. We see some great qualities that Boaz notices in Ruth as we he meets her. He notices that she is faithful to God. She is loyal to her family. She is a hard worker. And that is honors God morally. These qualities stand out to him and in so doing we provides special treatment to keep her protected and to give her more than she expected.
As Ruth is getting to know this man of integrity she notices 4 qualities in him. She sees that he honors her. He protects her. He provides for her and he prays for her. Great qualities that all men and women should have. Jesus wants us to be transformed and the qualities should be seen in us. We call that the fruit of the Spirit. The Spirit that helps us to live in peace and growth in God.
So how about you? What qualities are being seen in your inwardly as well as outwardly? What area of your life are you ready to move to the next chapter? I pray that as we continue this week that you will seek out time alone with God to ask Him to reveal what areas you need to grow in as a Ruth and Boaz.
Looking forward to seeing all of you Sunday.
