Time to Go
Two weeks ago we began looking at the Story of Ruth. We learned that this is not the action story with battles and fights happening. That there are no large miraculous things that God did in their lives. It is the story of God's faithfulness and providential care that we will see in this story, much like ours.
We read in Ruth 1:1, "In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab."
Now Elimelech's name means: My God is King. The unfortunate part is if God is truly your king then you would ask and trust him instead of just doing what is right in your own eyes. And because they did what was right in their own eyes it cost them. They went to a land that was forbidden by God for his people to go to and because of Elimelech's lack of trust, it ultimately cost his life and the life later of his sons.
How about us? How often when times get tough do we do what is right in our own eyes and allowing the temptation of Moab to draw us in?
Often times when we do choose the wrong thing we end up staying in it too long. Ruth 1:4, "After they had lived there about ten years." They stayed in that horrible place and place that God did not want them in the first place for 10 years. It is so true with us that we often get stuck due to our own choices. But in order to get back to the right place, you have leave the wrong one. I pray as we continue this journey on Sunday that we take a hard look at our lives and ask ourselves, 'What is one decision we could make; what one action can we take that would change the trajectory of our lives and legacy?'
Looking forward to being back on Sunday after a weekend of sickness.
