When will I Die and What will I Leave Behind?
When will I Die and What will I Leave Behind?
Have you ever wondered, 'When will I die?' I think all of us have sat and thought that at one time or another. All of us are going to die it is just a matter of when.
Psalms 39:4-5 tells us, “LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath.”
It is so easy to live this life without ever thinking about our mortal existence and then one day it is over. Never considering what our eternal destination will be or who we have had influence over.
I have known some that lived like the 'devil' and the wave of hurt, regret, and sadness they have left behind is almost unbearable for those left wondering about what has happened to their soul.
A fun but scary web site for fun to find out when your "going" to die is www.deathclock.org. Through various variables it calculates when you will die. I did mine and found out that it will be Sunday April 16th, 2056. I will be 86 years, 5 months and 03 days old. That is 11,584 days.
Now 86 to me seems like a pretty good long time. If I make it that long and preaching my last Sunday then going home to be with Jesus would be alright by me.
But to many times we end up living without a thought about what our life will amount too. We looked two weeks ago that we need to turn our when/then's into when/nows. Not living life with when this happens then I will do...we need to live in the moment taking every opportunity to be encouraging, share about what Jesus has done in you and not live with the regrets of unsaid or unshared concerns.
Proverbs 27:1 tells us, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” It is great to plan and consider the future but we do not know what may come.
Remember, that what we came into this world with is what we will leave with, with the exception of Jesus. We can't take any worldly possessions with us, the only thing that is sure is our relationship with Christ. Know that death is a mirror that gives us a glimpse of who we really are. Death is a rearview mirror that puts the past into perspective.
Live generous in all ways, whether with resources, compliments, or encouragement. Know that when we live with an optimistic outlook it CAN add years to our life. Living negatively shortens and leaves us lonely.
Sunday will be a great day!
