God's Warrior Week 4: Feeling the Pain

Jun 22, 2025    Pastor Steve Hoffman

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the message:

Day 1: God's Presence in Our Pain Reading: Romans 8:18-25 Devotional: In our darkest moments, when pain and suffering seem overwhelming, it's easy to feel abandoned. Yet Paul reminds us that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that awaits us. Today, reflect on how God might be using your current struggles to shape you. Consider how your pain might be drawing you closer to Him, even when it feels like He's distant. Ask God to help you see beyond your immediate circumstances and to trust in His greater purpose.

Day 2: The Holy Spirit's Intercession Reading: Romans 8:26-27 Devotional: There are times when our pain is so deep that we can't find the words to pray. In these moments, take comfort in knowing that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with "groans that words cannot express." Today, sit in silence for a few minutes, allowing the Spirit to pray on your behalf. Trust that God understands your heart, even when you can't articulate your feelings. Thank Him for His intimate knowledge of your struggles and His constant advocacy for you.

Day 3: God's Goodness in All Things Reading: Romans 8:28-30 Devotional: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him." This verse isn't a promise that everything will be easy, but rather an assurance that God can use all circumstances - even painful ones - for our ultimate good. Today, look back on a difficult period in your life. Can you see ways that God brought good out of that situation? If you're currently in the midst of suffering, ask God to help you trust in His goodness and to give you eyes to see how He might be working, even now.

Day 4: God's Unshakeable Love Reading: Romans 8:31-39 Devotional: Paul's powerful words remind us that nothing can separate us from God's love - not trouble, hardship, persecution, or even death. This love is the foundation of our hope and the source of our strength in difficult times. Today, meditate on the depth and breadth of God's love for you. How might fully embracing this truth change the way you view your current challenges? Ask God to help you live from a place of security in His love, rather than fear of your circumstances.

Day 5: Christ's Example in Suffering Reading: Philippians 2:5-11 Devotional: Jesus, though divine, chose to embrace human suffering for our sake. His example shows us that suffering can have redemptive purpose and that God is intimately acquainted with our pain. Today, consider how Jesus' willingness to suffer might inform your own approach to difficulties. How can you, like Christ, maintain hope and trust in God even in the midst of pain? Ask God to give you the mind of Christ, helping you to see your sufferings in light of His greater purpose and promise of future glory.
