A Consuming Fire Week 3 : A Burning Desire

5-Day Devotional based of the morning message:

Burning with Singular Focus

Day 1: The God Who Never Stops Doing Good Reading: Jeremiah 32:26-41

Devotional: Despite Israel's repeated failures and rebellion, God declares, "I will never stop doing good to them." This astounding promise reveals the heart of our Father. We often turn our backs on God, chasing after distractions and lesser desires, yet God pursues us relentlessly. The Israelites worshiped false gods, neglected justice, and turned away repeatedly, but God's commitment remained unchanged. Today, reflect on areas where you've turned away from God. What distractions have captured your attention? Remember that God's goodness isn't dependent on your performance. He is running after you with love, desiring to restore and renew you. His consuming fire burns away everything that separates you from His best for your life.

Day 2: Singleness of Heart Reading: Matthew 6:19-24

Devotional: "I will give them singleness of heart and action," God promises in Jeremiah. Jesus echoes this truth when He teaches that we cannot serve two masters. Our culture screams for our attention through screens, possessions, and endless pursuits of more. Yet God desires to transform us into people with one purpose, one focus, one master. Like a car out of alignment that drifts when you release the wheel, we drift when our hearts aren't singularly focused on God. This Lenten season, examine what competes for God's place in your life. Is it success, comfort, approval, or entertainment? Ask God to realign your heart, to burn away divided loyalties, and to give you the gift of singular devotion that leads to true peace and fulfillment.

Day 3: Turning Our Faces Toward God Reading: Lamentations 3:19-26

Devotional: The Israelites "turned their backs to me and not their faces," God laments. Like children running from a parent's instruction, we often avoid facing God directly. We know what He wants to say, so we distract ourselves with noise and busyness. Yet Lamentations reminds us that God's mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is great. Turning our face toward God means being willing to hear His correction, receive His guidance, and accept His love. It requires vulnerability and honesty about our spiritual condition. Today, resist the urge to run. Sit quietly before God. Face Him directly in prayer. Confess where you've been running. His mercies await you this morning, fresh and sufficient for every need you have.

Day 4: Hope That Cannot Be Shaken Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11

Devotional: "He did rescue us from mortal danger, and He will rescue us again." Paul's confidence wasn't rooted in circumstances, politics, or human effort, but in the unchanging character of God. In our ever-changing world, we desperately search for stability. We look to culture, leaders, and our own abilities, only to find them shifting sand. But hope came as a Person, Jesus Christ, planted firmly in our hearts when we joined God's family. This hope is a lifeline in every storm. When distractions threaten to pull you under, when spiritual dryness sets in, remember that your hope isn't a theory or feeling. It's Jesus Himself, alive in you, unchanging and faithful. Let this hope grow like a plant reaching for light, anchoring your soul today.

Day 5: God First in Everything Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Devotional: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." This ancient command calls us to total devotion, not divided attention. The Israelites were instructed to keep God's words on their hearts, talk about them constantly, and make them central to daily life. This wasn't religious duty but an invitation to relationship with the One who desires our wholeness. Putting God first doesn't mean adding religious activities to an already busy schedule. It means allowing Him to be the consuming fire at the center of everything, burning away what doesn't belong and purifying our motives, desires, and actions. Today, tomorrow, and every day, choose God first. Not perfection, but direction. Not flawless performance, but faithful turning toward the One who never stops doing you good.
